Social media growth - (When you'll see results)
Updated: Nov 22, 2022
I’ve created my business page, now when do I see massive sales? A lot of people expect to see instant results from social media posting, however most are left feeling disappointed as it’s not as quick and easy as it appears to be. These statistics from tactys.io breakdown how long it could be until you see positive results from each social media platform, obviously this isn’t an exact rule for everyone but it is something to be mindful of when starting your social media journey.
All these seem rather off putting when you are a new small business looking for new ways to grow, the best thing to do is just get your name out there to begin with and not expect to see massive sales results from social media from the get-go.
There are ways for you to manage your social media to maximise your growth and possibly see those much needed sales to come in sooner rather than later.
You need to start off by doing some target research. Find out what your competitors are posting and how they get customer engagement on their social media posts. Get a good sense of what your competitors are doing and try your best to keep up with the trends they are following or even setting themselves.
Do some social listening. This is searching your competitors by their social media tags and handles to find out what their customers are saying about them, this is a great way for you to see what is and isn’t working for them.
Read others social media success stories. Companies that have a massive online presence will have most likely posted somewhere and shared about their growth as a business. Read what they have to say and look at any key information they share, this is a great way of learning some new tactics that you might not have thought about.
Create your social media plan! The next thing you need to think about is determining the right content mix that will work for you. If you are starting from scratch there are 2 methods that are great to follow.
-The 80/20 rule: This is an easy one to stick to and is a great way to keep your customers engaged on your social media accounts. 80% of your posts should be entertaining, informative and educational (blogs for example) and the other 20% should be directly promoting your brand and driving sales.
-The Rule of Thirds: 1/3 of your content should be promoting your business and driving sales 1/3 of your content should be sharing ideas and posts from thought leaders in your industry 1/3 of your content should be customer engagement, asking questions in polls for example
If you’re more rooted in your social media and are trying to grow even bigger you can start dividing up your post in more depth for example:
Once you have your social media plan in set in motion it’s time to keep track of your posts and how they work in favour of your business.
Track meaningful metrics. Don’t look at the vanity metrics such as likes and follows! Whilst these are great and show you are growing your audience, it’s important to remember that you are trying to get that audience to engage with your business. So, you want to focus on looking at your post engagements and clickthrough rates.
Know your audience. When your audience starts growing a little you can use social media analytics to find valuable information such as who your followers are, the average age of your followers, where they live and how they interact with you. This is incredibly important so you can start to focus your posts to be more in line with what people in your target audience would interact with.
Track your performance and readjust. Once you’ve started to change your posts to get engagement from your target audience, track the statistics and compare it to what you were seeing before you made the change. This is an incredibly important step to see if your efforts have made a difference. If there isn’t much of a change in numbers, re-evaluate and try something new. The social media world is constantly changing and so should your tactics! Follow the latest trends in your target audience and try again. It's important to keep re-evaluating what is and isn’t working until you find your sweet spot and start achieving those all-important click-throughs.
Keep your followers happy. Once you have started to see a growth in your follows, clickthrough’s and sales, it’s important to keep those numbers at a steady level. The only way to do this is to keep your followers and customers loyal by having meaningful interactions with them on your social pages. This can be as simple as replying to comments soon after you receive them, tagging your more loyal customers in your Instagram stories when they post something worth sharing, or even by creating a poll using social media interactive tools.
